Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl Flooring at J.P. Flooring in Carroll, IowaVinyl floors are popular among many homeowners, particularly in kitchens and bathrooms. It's an advancement from the linoleum of old. Vinyl flooring is versatile, water and stain resistant, and provides owners good durability for the cost. With the advancements in flooring, luxury vinyl has also been introduced. Today, this makes vinyl flooring both attractive and economical.

Types of Vinyl Flooring

There are some different types of vinyl flooring. Standard vinyl is either laid down in sheets, typically 6 or 12 feet wide, or it is laid in squares like tile. Sheet flooring is more resistant to water and easier to install. The tile look...especially with luxury vinyl, replicates the look of higher-end flooring and is usually more attractive.

Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) and luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is considered a "luxury" vinyl as it mimics stone, ceramic tile or wood. Technology continues to advance luxury vinyl with additions of textures, making it even harder to differentiate between vinyl and actual wood or stone.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl is durable and holds up well in high foot traffic areas. Which is why it's often a common choice in commercial applications. It is cost effective and dampens noise which is a plus for homeowners with children or pets. It also comes in a wide variety of patterns and styles, making it a versatile choice all around.

That said, vinyl does not hold up well to heavy loads and can be damaged by sharp objects or points. Direct sunlight has also been known to lighten patterns, although the advances we discussed earlier have reduced this issue.
